Devil’s Food Cake with Mocha Butter Frosting
For all of my sweet treat lovers, I’m back with another recipe from my grandma’s cooking archives. This is a devil’s food cake with a mocha buttercream frosting, which is the perfect thing to bake if you’re in the mood for something chocolatey. It’s super simple to make & is a total crowd pleaser <3
Devil’s Food Cake
Ingredients:
3/4 c butter softened
1/2 c sugar
1 1/12 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 3/4 c flour
1/2 c cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c buttermilk
1/2 c boiling water
What to do:
cream butter with sugar and vanilla in mixer bowl until light and fluffy
add eggs and beat well
combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt
alternately add dry ingredients with buttermilk to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition
add boiling water and beat until smooth
pour batter into lined 13x9 inch pan
bake at 350 degrees F for about 40 min or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean
cool 10 min
turn out on rack and remove paper
cool and then frost with mocha butter frosting
Mocha Butter Frosting
Ingredients:
1/4 c butter softened
2 tbsp cocoa
3/4 tsp instant coffee granules
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 c powdered sugar
1 or 2 teaspoons of water/milk (or as much as needed)
What to do:
combine butter, cocoa, coffee granules, and vanilla in a small mixer bowl until well blended
gradually beat in sugar until of good spreading consistency
add 1 or 2 teaspoons of water/milk (or as much needed) if too stiff to spread
