5 Things to Do to Lock In for the Rest of This Year

As the year just passes the midway point, it’s an ideal time to refocus, reenergize, and make the most of the remaining months. Although people love creating resolutions and goals at the beginning of the year, I always prefer being ahead of the curve and starting during the summer, so I can enter the next year already new and improved.

Whether you're aiming to achieve personal goals, advance in your career, or simply maintain a healthier lifestyle, here are some practical tips to help you lock in and finish the year strong.

Stick to a Routine

Consistency is key to productivity. Establish a daily routine that includes time for work, exercise, meals, and relaxation. Having a structured schedule helps you stay organized and ensures that you’re dedicating time to all important aspects of your life. A routine reduces decision fatigue and makes it easier to maintain momentum. If you don’t have a set routine in place, start by writing down all the things you need to get done and then figure out when is the most ideal time to get each thing done. Even though it can get repetitive, I always feel my best and most accomplished when I am staying on track with my routines.

Complete Your Toughest Tasks First

This is huge for all my fellow procrastinators! When I know I have something difficult on my plate, it has honestly become one of my worst habits to keep putting it off for as long as physically possible. Although this may feel better in the moment, comfort is truly the thief of success, and tackling these hard tasks immediately will ultimately eliminate the stress in the long run. One of the greatest skills a person can have is the ability to do the hard work, even in the moments when they don’t feel like doing it. Trust me, your future self will thank you later.

Have an Accountability Partner

Doing anything alone can feel difficult, so having an accountability partner to come along on the journey can make locking in so much easier. Especially on the days when you feel a bit lazier and want to revert back to old habits, having someone there to keep you accountable, and vice versa, will ensure you stay on track. Also, when you do reach your goals together, you’ll have someone by your side to celebrate with.

Track Your Progress

Keep a record of your progress towards your goals. Use journals, apps, or spreadsheets to document your achievements and setbacks. Tracking your progress helps you stay motivated by visually seeing how far you’ve come. It also allows you to identify patterns, adjust your strategies, and celebrate your milestones along the way.

Eliminate Distractions

Identify and remove distractions from your environment to improve focus and productivity. This might involve setting boundaries with family or roommates, turning off notifications on your devices, or creating a dedicated workspace free from interruptions. By minimizing distractions, you can concentrate better and complete your tasks more efficiently. Even if your goal is based around health and eating cleaner, throw out any junk or temptations that could potentially interfere with your ability to build discipline.
