Shows I’m Watching Right Now

I’ve been watching a lot of television recently since I have way more free time in the summer, so I wanted to keep you up to date with the newest shows that I have been watching!

  • Love Island UK

Not even joking, I’m literally obsessed with Love Island. Like I love their accents, the challenges, the romances & the fact that it is pretty much live. Especially with the decline of the Bachelor Franchise, Love Island is here to save the day and bring that juicy reality tv that I am addicted to. Not to mention, they also put out an episode everyday, which is a major plus. Also, I tried getting into the US version that’s on CBS, but UK is superior hands down.

  • My Unorthodox Life

This is a new reality show on Netflix about an Orthodox Jewish woman, Julia Haart, who left her religious community to become a designer in NYC and the CEO of a major modeling company, Elite World Group. I like that the overall message of the show displays that it is okay to go against the crowd to fulfill your own happiness/dreams and leave behind what no longer serves you, even if you may face backlash. Also, seeing all of the work that Julia does in the fashion industry is super cool and it’s inspiring how much she has achieved, even when breaking into this industry debatably later in life. However, I feel that people who watch it should understand that although Julia and some of her family members have chosen to live a more secular life and have been openly critical about some of they ways they formerly used to live, this should not allow people, especially those who are unfamiliar with Judaism, to be openly anti-semitic to observant jewish communities or to jewish individuals in general, as this type of hate can be extremely dangerous to a group that has had to combat so much prejudice throughout history and still to this day. While the show itself is interesting, I think a lot of people may get the wrong idea about Judaism and begin to normalize harmful stereotypes, when in fact it is more complex and meaningful religion/lifestyle than what is seen on the surface.

  • Gossip Girl

Because of the reboot that just came out, which I low-key have no interest in watching, this inspired me to rewatch the old seasons of Gossip Girl. Although I literally haven’t watched the shows since like middle school, it is honestly just as entertaining as I remember and I get why the show has such a cult following. Also, who doesn’t love seeing a dramatized version of the chaos that. happens amongst the elite of NYC.

  • Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

This season is serving up some boiling hot tea. It honestly is just chronicling Erika Girardi’s downfall. Justice for the plane victims and their families who had millions of dollars stolen from them by Tom. It’s really sad to see Erika complaining about her “tiny” 2 million dollar home in Hancock Park and how she is broke now, when actual tragedies have happened to those families/children.

On another note, I’m living for Miss Kathy Hilton, she is an absolute ICON.

  • Naomi Osaka Netflix Docuseries

I just watched this last night with my boyfriend, who is literally the biggest tennis stan, and it was actually so interesting. Although a lot of the docuseries had to do with Naomi’s successes as a fairly new tennis star, it also showed the chaos that happens behind the scenes and how it has negatively affected her mental health. I feel like this showed the intense pressure that so many young athletes face when they are not only dealing with being the greatest in their sport, but also the opinions of the media, obligations to massive corporation brand deals, and having so little time to their selves.

This docuseries was super beautifully and cinematically produced. 10/10 would recommend.
