How Walking 10K Steps a Day Changed My Life
In the past, I have always heard people talk about the benefit of walking ten thousand steps a day, but I truthfully had never attempted doing it consistently because, for some reason, it just felt a little bit unattainable to me. It wasn’t until my cousin got on a major health kick where she started doing it every day that I really got inspired and believed that I could also do it too. Although it took a little bit of time to get used to adding this to my routine, I have honestly never looked back after experiencing all of the incredible benefits. Here are some of the key ways that it has changed my life and why I literally cannot shut up about it:
It’s such an easy way to move my body more.
Not going to lie, I have always been the type of person who has absolutely HATED working out. Although I would still force myself to go to the gym all the time, once Covid-19 rolled around, I pretty much was living a sedentary life, which ultimately made me feel like shit since I was barely exercising. Once I realized working out does not mean you have to always be doing intense exercises, walking 10k steps has become my absolute go-to because it’s actually something I enjoy doing and it easily ends up totaling about 5+ miles every day. Ever since, I have not only felt a lot physically healthier, but also have had so much more mental clarity as well. If I ever miss a day, which is not that often, I genuinely do notice a difference in the way that I feel.
It has added structure to my everyday routine.
Having daily routines is so important for staying on track, and I really have felt like my life became more well-rounded once I added walking every day as one of my non-negotiables. Especially on days when I feel like I am less busy, getting my steps done is always on my to-do list. I definitely feel like if you are someone who works remotely, doing activities like this are so vital, since you are primarily sitting inside all day.
It helped me lose weight & I noticed a significant change in the way my body looks.
While there are so many mental benefits from walking 10k steps a day, I can’t lie and say that I also did not also notice physical changes in the way that I look. Once I started getting really consistent with walking every day, I probably dropped around 10 pounds without having to change anything else in my diet (although I do eat pretty healthy in general). I’m just looking more snatched these days, which I love obviously, and it’s truly all thanks to walking more. The more you take care of yourself and actually see results, you can’t help but just feel so much more confident.
It has helped me with discipline.
As much as I love all the benefits I get from doing my ten thousand steps every day, that doesn’t mean I don’t have days where I honestly just don’t want to do it. Despite feeling like this, I know true results only come from being consistent, so even on a day that I am feeling super lazy, I still get myself up and get it done. Not only has this allowed me to build more trust with myself to keep my own promises, but I also feel a sense of accomplishment every day after completing it.
