Stop Buying Granola at the Store & Make It Way Better at Home

If you’re a huge smoothie bowl, açai, yogurt, or even cottage cheese fan, you know how crucial the addition of a granola topping is (or at least it is for me lol).

I used to always buy it at the store until I realized that so many brands are literally full of added sugars and other poor ingredients, so my mom decided to started making her own homemade version for me. Not only is it so easy to make and tastes amazing, but it’s also better for you, since you know that it’s being made with quality ingredients.

This recipe also makes a pretty big batch and should last you a while, so it’s perfect if you’re busy and don’t have time to always be making it.

You need to try it out & I swear you’ll never go back to buying granola at the store again!

Ingredients:

  • 4 c rolled oats

  • 3 c nuts/seeds of your choice (I used pumpkin seeds, cashews, pistachios, almonds, and pecans)

  • 1/4 c shredded coconut flakes

  • 1/2 c melted butter (unsalted)

  • 1/2 c maple syrup

  • 1 tbs vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cardamom

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 3/4 tsp salt

What to do:

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F

  • In a large bowl, mix together the oats, nuts/seeds, melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cardamom, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined

  • Spread this mixture evenly onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper

  • Place into the oven for about 3 hours and mix with a spatula periodically to ensure it bakes evenly

  • 10 minutes before you remove from the oven, add the shredded coconut until it becomes golden and toasted

  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple hours until mixture becomes fully dry

  • Store in an air tight container & enjoy!
